How To Reduce The leakage Of Your Tent? - Pomoly Dan - 04-14-2022

Having a leaking tent while camping is a bad camping experience and even regrets going camping. We can't decide if the weather is good or bad, but we can take steps to reduce tent leakage to ensure a pleasant camping experience. Therefore, you can try some of the following methods to reduce the leakage of your tent:

1. Waterproof the tent before camping

There is a waterproof coating on some tents, but it will be better to do a waterproof treatment before you use the tent. Especially canvas tents, canvas tents are breathable, but it is not completely waterproof. You can reduce canvas tents leakage by soaking and drying them.

2. Sealing the tent seams

Seam sealing is the application of a layer of glue or sealant to the seams of the tent fabric. If your tent is leaking, you can buy seam sealant and apply it to your tent. After the sealant is applied, it will penetrate into the seam stitching pinholes to form a waterproof barrier, which can effectively extend the life of the tent. Note that you need to apply the sealant to the underside/inside (or glossy side) of the fabric.
There are a lot of sealants on the market. After testing a variety of sealants, the best one is Gear Aid Seam Grip + WP. Compared with other sealants, Gear Aid Seam Grip + WP requires more complicated procedures and a longer drying time. If you prefer easy sealing operations, you can use Gear Aid Seam Grip + FC fast curing sealant.

3. Glue pressing for tent

The glue pressing strip is a layer of tape, which can also be said to be a polyurethane film. Placing the glue pressing under the seam of the fabric can block the water infiltrating the needle and thread holes from entering the tent, but the process of Glue can only be done in the factory. Therefore, when purchasing tents, you can choose tents that are treated with glue pressing strips. For heavy fabrics, glue pressing for waterproofing is a good solution. It can fit closely on heavy fabrics, but for lightweight fabrics, the effect is not so good.

4. Put a waterproof cloth under the tent

Rainwater does not always enter from the top of the tent, it also seeps from the ground. In order to prevent the bottom of the tent from not seeping water, you can put another layer of waterproof cloth under the tent. In addition to being waterproof and moisture-proof, it can also prevent the bottom of the tent from being worn out. Besides, when setting up tents, do not set up in low-lying places to avoid water accumulation.

The tents on the market cannot be 100% waterproof, what we can do is to reduce the leakage of the tent or try not to camp in bad weather.
