7 Tips for Cleaning Your Tent Stove - Pomoly Dan - 05-09-2022

Often, tent stoves get dirty over time, making your tent stove look unsightly. If your tent stove gets dirty, don't worry, you can refer to some tips below to clean your tent stove.

1. Check the stove as a whole

Separately check the oven box (bottom and side panels), dampers, chimneys, doors, and legs for holes or excessive rust. For stainless steel stoves, a certain amount of rust is acceptable and unavoidable, which has no effect on the performance and function of the stove.

2. Use a wire brush to remove the rust on the tent stove

This is done mainly to prevent the tent stove from rusting. Your stove will only look shiny and new when you just received it and haven't burned it. It is normal for the stove to look like it has been used for a long time after using it once or a few times.

3. Use a wire brush to remove rust from the bottom panel and side panels

Brush off rust, ash, or another residue on the base and side panels to prevent rust buildup and make sure all air holes are clear.

4. Bush off and remove any rust or corrosion from the top of the folding legs around where it rotates, and where the legs make contact with the stove box when folded.

This is important. Failing to maintain this area of your stove can result in seized legs that have rusted in place - prying them open can deform/damage the legs and the stove box.

5. Clean and oil the door hinges with a wire brush

Use a small wire brush to clean the crevices. Oil the door hinges after cleaning.

6. Clean all pipe sections containing creosote

Creosote should be knocked off, and pipe sections used to scrape off from larger pipe sections any creosote that may have built up after every burn. Using a wire brush to do a “deep clean” of creosote as part of yearly maintenance will make in-season removal of creosote quicker, easier, and more effective.

7. Check the damper parts

The damper piece is one of the keys to successful stove operation and safety, so it is important to ensure that the piece functions well. Check whether the damper's air-adjusting part can slide normally.
